The aroma of freshly ground coffee and the warmth of wood form the heart of 'Don Justo,' an architectural intervention within a commercial café that celebrates the brand's rich heritage. With roots tracing back to 1891, the design—captured in this series of images—strikes a masterful balance between the nostalgia of the past and contemporary sophistication. The space emerges as an urban refuge, inviting socialization and the appreciation of the art of coffee.
Upon crossing the threshold of Don Justo, the immediate impression is one of rich, balanced textures. Smooth drywall finishes, painted in a warm, neutral tone, provide a clean, contemporary canvas that highlights the more organic elements. Replacing the previous brutalist aesthetic, the exposed-service ceiling, painted entirely in a cozy, soft beige, introduces a layer of technical interest and visual expansiveness without sacrificing intimacy. WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) surfaces featuring a convincing timber appearance, used extensively in communal tables and custom shelving, provide the visual comfort of wood alongside the durability and sustainability of a modern material. The white terrazzo counter, flecked with turquoise chips, retains a playful and contemporary touch, while the iconic black-and-white striped bistro chairs firmly anchor the space in European café tradition.
The design fosters connection and discovery. The primary seating area is anchored by substantial WPC communal tables with a solid-wood look, perfect for groups or the solitary worker. A floor-to-ceiling WPC shelving unit with a timber finish serves as a curated cabinet of curiosities, displaying vibrant blue coffee packaging, indoor plants, and other branded objects. This curated approach extends to the bar, where a 'DON JUSTO' sign intertwined with integrated greenery crowns the preparation area.
A truly captivating element is the lighting. Suspended from the beige exposed ceiling, large, organic glass pendant lights diffuse a soft, ethereal glow, creating a dreamlike and inviting atmosphere that contrasts beautifully with the crispness of the smooth walls.
Don Justo is not merely a café; it is a destination where architecture serves as a storytelling vessel. Every texture, from the terrazzo to the crisp walls, and every element, from the glass clouds to the WPC surfaces, has been carefully selected to elevate the coffee-drinking experience into an act of appreciating craftsmanship and sustainable design. At Don Justo, past and present coexist in perfect harmony, inviting visitors to become part of a legacy that continues to thrive within a modern, welcoming environment.
